ObituaryTIMES

The Times, December 28th, 1785:

" ......Monday died, at his house in Suffolk-street, Cavendish-Square, in the 74th year of his age, Sir Thomas Pye, Admiral of the White, and Lieutenant-General of the Marines.

He was a person of strictest probity of principle, the nicest sense of honour, and the most benevolent spirit, this or any age has produced. He was, perhaps, the best judge of maritime duty of his time, having served his King and Country in the Royal Navy sixty years, without exciting the enmity of any one person who was not also an enemy to virtue and sensibility...."
