The Danish squadron was anchored in the vicinity of Bornholm, when the Swedish squadron approached.

Three Danish ships raised anchor and approached the Swedes, firing a three-gun challenge. Unfortunately one shot hit a Swedish ship and the Danes were quickly surrounded.

After a four hour engagement all three Danish ships were captured.
