L’Ardent, encumbered with 400 sick people, having lost 50 men, Coulombe decided to let himself be carried by the winds to France.

He can achieve this by capturing an English ship and using its crew.

On October 12 it appeared in sight of Belle Ile, but after a fight against enemy ships, it was forced to run aground the next day near Quiberon.
