On the Jamaica station, the Fowey, 24, (9-prs.), Captain Joseph Mead, fell in, off Cape Tiberon, with the Spanish royal frigate Ventura, 26 (12-prs.), and fought her for an hour and a half, when the ships separated, much damaged. On the following morning the action was resumed with vigour, and continued till the Ventura struck. The Fowey lost ten killed and twenty-four wounded, and the Ventura, forty in killed alone.
