Of course January 1690 in the Julian calendar is the same as Jan. 1691 in the Gregorian. I would want to see primary sources before deciding which one it is. (Although Jan 1690 Julian does appear likely)

Mistake: The Battle of the Montague with the privateer was in January 1691 (the dictionary errs on the date), so this is when Lt. Perry first is mentioned. It is correct on the Montague's page.

John Perry seems to have been a Lieutenant of the Montague, commanded by Captain John Layton, which battled a French privateer in January 1690.
