William Price was born ca. 1775 to a William Price who was a master in the Navy from 1777 until 1837. According to newspaper notices of his death in 1835 (including the Naval and Military Gazette), William junior joined as a midshipman 'under the auspices' of of Sir G Bowyer and Lord Collingwood and served with both Collingwood and Bowyer on HMS Prince and HMS Barfleur. His father was master of both ships. Both father and son were injured in service (William senior at the Battle of the Saintes in 1782 and his son during service prior to his appointment as Lieutenant in 1799. William junior was promoted to the rank of Commander in 1821.
