Thompson was born in Newcastle in 1788 and joined Admiral Collingwood on the Venerable as a midshipman in 1803. He was wounded on the Royal Soveregn at Trafalgar. He became 1st Lt. of the frigate Larne(20) but died of fever in Bermuda in Sept 1817.
