According to Jesse Dobson's's short article of 1958 ('Surgeons of the Bounty'-easily found online), Company of Surgeons records show Huggan passed for surgeon's second mate in 1769. He died at Tahiti (alcoholism) on 9 December 1788 (10 December ship's time, i.e. p.m. on 9th, civil reckoning). 'Find a Grave' gives d.o.b. as 1745 but authority not stated.
