Hi Kim, the Bower family were previous inhabitants of my home. I am just preparing a presentation on the history. Are you aware of a Lt Col John Bower?

Half pay meant that an officer was not currently employed at sea or in a home-based command. It did not affect seniority and promotion.

thank you for helping me find out about my great grandfather.how did he make it to admiral if he was placed on half pay in 1845
