In the Records of St Nicholas Parish Deptford 5 July 1772 Ann HUNTER Baptised, her Father entered as Benjamin HUNTER, occupation recorded as Boatswain of His Majesty's (Dock) Yard, Deptford. This record also pre-dates 1776.

Yes, have not found a warrant for his start of service at Deptford yet. 1764 is certainly an improvement.

In the St Nicholas Church Parish Records of Burials 28 Sep 1764 William son of Benjamin Hunter - Boatswain of the Kings Yard. This pre-dates the 1776 "Date from" shown.
