I have before me at the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce a letter signed by John Frankland, master shipwright, dated 09 January 1792. Unfortunately, there is no address but he was writing about the trial at Deptford of a machine for drawing bolts from timbers which was successful.
