Lieutenant Robert Cross, born in Portsmouth in 1795, was the brother of Thomas Cross (b. 1791), author of The Autobiography of a Stagecoach-man (1861), who refers to his brother sailing in the HMS Cyane under Sir Thomas Staines (Volume 2, page 213).
