(Edited) Was the son of Lieut. Col. Kempenfelt, a native of Sweden...was born in Westminster...in 1757 was appointed Captain of the Elizabeth...in May 1761 Adm. Steevens dying, the command devolved on Ad. Cornish who solicited the assistance of Capt. Kempenfelt to act as his Captain...having served long in the East Indies, he obtained leave to return to England.
