5 May 1756 Lt Richard Kempenfelt made commander of the Lightening fire ship having previously been Lt on the Orford68 cap Charles Steevens
17 Jan 1757 made post and appointed to the Elizabeth

The Gentleman's Magazine (London, England), Volume 52
(Edited) Was the son of Lieut. Col. Kempenfelt, a native of Sweden...was born in Westminster...in 1757 was appointed Captain of the Elizabeth...in May 1761 Adm. Steevens dying, the command devolved on Ad. Cornish who solicited the assistance of Capt. Kempenfelt to act as his Captain...having served long in the East Indies, he obtained leave to return to England.
