No, the dates are very specifically first and last KNOWN dates. I.e. all we know is that he was first commissioned on 4.6.1778. When/if more informaiton is found the dates will change.

Lt. Edward Haddock (first and last date of service are the same—4.6.1778). Does this mean that he passed the exam, but preferred not to go to sea? Or what else?
