Hughes, his second wife (Ruth, previously Mrs Ball,1731-1800) and her two sons Captain Henry Ball RN (1754-92) and David (1760-98)are buried at Lambourne, Essex. His age at death on 17 January 1794 is given in his inscription there as 'aet. 77',indicating he was born in 1717 rather than the usual 'c.1720'.
