On his return voyage to France, Pointis managed to avoid the English admiral John Neville detached from Cadix to pursue him .

The only ship captured was an hospital with yellow fever sicks : the desease killed 1300 English sailors, six captains, and Admiral Neville himself , only one captain in the Dutch fleet survived.
