Of course, the 1854 Providence smack is not the same vessel as the 1804 fireship of the same name which was expended at Boulogne.

Appreciate any more news of the smack "Providence".

1854 Job Roberts. North Wales Chronicle. 8 July 1854. 8 Jul 1854 (168 years ago) Porth MaDog. On the night of the 2nd as the smack "Providence" of this Port was proceeding from Poole to Liverpool via Cape Cornwall, the mainsail jibed the main sheet, sweeping the Master (Captain Roberts - our great great grandad) overboard and he was lost. The vessel was able to make it into Porth MaDog for repair. I might take a few days and see if there are any other records.
