Prince of Wales, Fort Royal Bay, SIR, January 18 , 1797.

I am to acquaint you, for the information of their Lordships, that His Majesty's Ship Lapwing, commanded by Captain Barton, on the 28th of last Month, captured off Montserrat a French Privateer, called the Maria Topaze, of 10 guns (6 of which she threw overboard when chased) and 64 men, belonging to Guadaloupe.

She had sailed the day before from St. Eustatia on a cruize.
