Copy of a letter from Captain Gore, Commander of His Majesty's Ship the Triton, to Admiral Lord Bridport, dated at sea, October 23, 1797.

My Lord, I have the honor to inform your Lordship, that I  this day chased and captured, close in with Abbruaak, the Furet French Schooner Privateer, mounting 4 guns , 4-pounders, but pierced for 14, having 53 men on board ; 23 days out from Treguier, and had only taken the Denton English Brig, laden with coals, which was retaken the next day by His Majesty's Ship Jason.

I have the honor to be, &c.
