Description CaptureBG

His Majestfs Sloop Plover, of Falmouth, October 22, 1809.
SIR,
I have the honour to inform you His Majesty's Sloop, under my command, this day at 6 P.M. captured after a sharp Chace of one hundreds miles, during which much skill was (hewn by the enemy , the new French Coppered Schooner Privateer "L'Hirondelle", of St. Malo , commanded by Henry Louis Gavellier , pierced for 16 guns , all of which he threw overboard, in the pursuit, and manned with 65 men, he had been at sea 8 days and had captured the Portuguese Ship "Minerve" . I am sorry to add, that through his temerity in firing musketry at the Plover , I was compelled to return it, which badly wounded the Captain of the Portuguese Ship .

I beg to annex in the Margin*, the names of the 2 vessels recaptured by the Plover, on the 19th Instant.
I have the Honour to be, &c.

PHILIP BROWNE

* "Mary" of Boston , American Ship and "Ecce Homo" , Spanish Ship.
