The will of John Barker, merchant of London, was written on board the Discovery on 20 September 1626. Modern spelling: "Dated aboard the Discovery upon the coast of India." He says that he wrote the will "fearing daily to encounter with our enemies the Portingales [Portuguese]." The will was proved in early 1629.
