Copy of a letter from Mr. Robert Adams, Commander of the Viper Excise Cutter, to Evan Nepean, Esq , dated Harwich , June 25, 1797.
SIR, I have the honour to inform you, that the Viper Excise Cutter under my Command, being on a Cruize yesterday, at 10 A. M. Naze Tower bearing North,, fell in with and captured L'Espoir French Privateer under the Command of Pierre Francois Codderin and 15 men. L'Espoir mounted 2 swivels, and well supplied with small arms. She had sailed from Dunkirk 2 days without any success.
