There are references to Mary Galley as a 20 during her last commission in the Mediterranean. (Richmond, /The Navy in the War of 1739-1748/, 160n; fleet lists in Schomberg, /Naval Chronology/, IV, 196, and Beatson /Naval and Military Memoirs of Great Britain/, III, 31) Probably her 12-pounders were removed on Admiral Haddock's authority after her arrival on his station, because of structural weakness from old age.
