Fort Augusta

Introduction

Demolished in the hurricane that struck Jamaica in 1744, it was rebuilt and in 1774 mounted 86 large guns. It is situated on Mosquito Point and guards the entrance to Port Royal harbour. The fort contained a naval hospital and barracks to accomodate 300 men.
