Could this be the 'Mermaid' that was taken by "Essex" (Capt John Cathcart) as one of three prizes off the coast of Ireland? Captured on 5 November 1780 at 30 long 45 lat was the information provided by Capt John Bowie to Andrew Buchanan, father of one of seamen lost.
